Overview
Mesa Valley Community School’s high school is a blended learning school which also provides part-time enrollment for many homeschooled students. This provides a distinct culture which values independence that is strongly rooted in family and community connections. The high school program is the capstone of our school in which we serve grades K-12. Our youngest students attend our K-5 homeschool enrichment program as part-time students, then transition to a blended learning model for grades 6-8.
In our high school, most classes are scheduled two days a week, but some are one and others are three. Students learn to work independently at home to complete work during their off days. Students also have the option of taking some classes online, via independent study, at another local high school, or though work experience. A large percentage of our high school students earn simultaneous high school and college credit by taking classes at Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and/or CMU Tech, which offers many programs of study with a technical/vocational emphasis. All of this prepares our students for the independent experience they are moving toward in their college or career, as they learn how to manage their time while taking classes only some days a of the week, navigate multiple campuses, complete independent work, and develop their individual life trajectory.
